These terms govern your use of Story of Your Own. By creating an account you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.

Who can use the service

You must be at least 18 and the parent or legal guardian of any child you create a profile for. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login secure.

The service

Story of Your Own generates a personalised, safety-reviewed bedtime story for your child and emails it to you. Stories are produced by AI based on the profile you provide.

Accounts & households

One account can be shared by co-parents you invite (on the tiers that include family sharing). The account owner manages billing and invitations. Everyone you invite can see and manage the shared children and stories, so only invite people you trust.

Membership, the free plan & billing

• Every account includes a permanent Free plan — no card required.
• You may subscribe to a monthly plan in Australian dollars for extra features: Basic (text) or Illustrated (text + illustrations).
• Paid plans renew automatically each month until cancelled.
• You can change plans or cancel at any time from your billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• Prices may change; we will give you notice and any change applies to future billing periods.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including the consumer guarantees, which cannot be excluded.

AI-generated content

Stories are generated by AI and pass automated safety moderation, but we cannot guarantee they will always suit every child or family. Stories are for personal, family entertainment. We recommend a parent reads each story. Do not rely on the service for educational, developmental, or medical advice.

Book recommendations & affiliate links

On the free plan we may show a small number of children's-book recommendations matched to your child's interests. Some links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy — at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are suggestions only; the seller (for example Amazon) is responsible for the product, price, and purchase, and we make no warranty about them. Paying members do not see these recommendations.

Acceptable use

• Use the service only for your own family's personal use.
• Do not attempt to misuse the service, probe its safety systems, or extract harmful or inappropriate content.
• Do not resell, redistribute, or commercialise the stories or the service.

Your content and ours

The profile details you enter remain yours. We grant you a personal, non-commercial licence to use the stories we generate for your family. The platform, brand, and software remain ours.

Sharing

If you choose to publish a story to a public link, you are responsible for that decision and for any personal details (such as a nickname) that appear in the shared story. You can unshare at any time.

Disclaimers & liability

The service is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, and subject to the non-excludable guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service.

Suspension & termination

You can cancel your membership at any time from your Subscription page. To permanently delete your account and all associated data, contact us at privacy@storyofyourown.com. We may suspend or end access if these terms are breached.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Tasmania, Australia, and you submit to the courts of that jurisdiction.

Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves; material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
